VW Joins 'Range Race' with 2017 E Golf

Volkswagen has given their new face lifted E Golf a 50% larger battery to increase range. The new E Golf (known by insiders as the Mk 7.5) now has an official range of 186 miles with VW claiming real-world driving will return 124 miles per charge. The 35.8 kWh battery replaces the previous 24.2 unit, a new electric motor increase power output to 134 bhp resulting in a quicker sixty sprint of 9.6 seconds.  Carmakers are now battling against each other in an EV ‘Range Race’ to increase battery range. BMW’s 94Ah i3 now has an official range of 195 miles, Nissan’s 30kWh Leaf 155 miles and Renault’s new Zoe 40 200 miles.  Tesla leads the race with their P100D, good for 302 miles between charges.
