Californian-based Lucid Motors promise that their new Air model could outperform Tesla. With 1,000hp, 400-mile range and the sort of acceleration that can dispatch 0-62 in just 2.5 secs, the claimed numbers certainly sound promising. Lucid will also be the sole battery supplier for Formula E in seasons five and six and say the usual mid-race battery change will no longer be required because of their higher density battery technology. The Air, due for production in 2018, will be built in Arizona and have a standard 100 kWh battery pack plus optional 130 kWh unit for longer range and greater speed. Specifications include air suspension, self-driving mode, energy-saving micro lens headlamps and the interior space of a Mercedes S Class but the exterior dimensions of an E Class. Expect prices of high spec versions to be around £80k with entry-level models appearing later at £50k.
