BP Talks Renewables

23 January 2017

BP’s head of long-term planning, Dominic Emery, said this week that ‘The growth of renewables has exceeded pretty much all forecasts and cost reductions have been about 80% in solar and 50% in wind.’ He also added ‘Wind and solar power have been growing faster than fossil fuels, although from a low base with the benefit of subsidies in many regions. Mow in many situations they are becoming competitive with fossil fuels and are poised to deliver substantial shares of energy.”  In 2015 46% of UK electricity came from clean energy sources such as wind and nuclear with 25% of UK power from renewables, out stripping coal (22%) for the first time ever. Gas provided 30% of UK electricity.
