Toyota has sold its 10 millionth hybrid. From launching the first battery and petrol hybrid Prius in December 1997 there are now 33 different Toyota and Lexus hybrid models sold in 90 different regions. The automaker reckons that over the two decades since launch their hybrid technology has saved 77 million tons of CO2 and 29 million litres of petrol globally. Reliability of the technology is now proven with batteries lasting for very high mileages. Austrian taxi driver, Manfred Dvorak, has covered 621,000 miles with his Prius on its original battery pack. He claims never to have broken down.
